There are many advantages to becoming a medical cannabis patient. Patients can save up 10% or even more with each purchase.
Before you can begin the process of getting your card, it’s important to understand how to get a marijuana card. The first step is to find a registered practitioner with the Medical Marijuana Program.
Florida Medical Marijuana Registry
Florida medical marijuana is available to patients suffering from chronic pain, PTSD and depression. The first step in treating your condition is to obtain a license to use and purchase cannabis.
To get your card you must have a qualifying condition and be approved from a licensed doctor. Physicians must examine you in person and review your medical records to determine if you qualify for the card. Patients should be prepared to answer questions about their medical history, previous treatments, and current symptoms.
Getting your medical marijuana card can take a few weeks or even months. It is essential that your application be submitted correctly and that you follow all OMMU regulations.
Once you’re approved, the physician will register your name with the OMMU and provide you with a patient ID number. You will then receive an email from the OMMU containing your username and password. Once you receive your login details, you can log in to the OMMU Registry online.
Renewal of your card is an easy process. The OMMU recommends you begin the renewal process at least 45 days before your card expires. You can renew your card online or by mail.
Currently, only doctors registered with the OMMU are able to approve patients for the purchase and possession of medical marijuana in Florida. On their website, the OMMU lists all physicians who have been certified to dispense medicinal marijuana. Patients can also search for a doctor by specialty and location.
California Medical Marijuana Program
California Medical Marijuana ID Card (MMIC), issued by the State, allows patients with a prescription from a physician to possess, cultivate, and consume cannabis. It also exempts them from paying sales and use taxes. Applicants can obtain their MMIC by applying in person or through the mail. The application process can vary slightly from county to county, but generally speaking the steps are the exact same.
Patients or their primary caregivers must submit a CDPH 9042 MMIC application form and written documentation from their doctor recommending marijuana as a treatment for one or several serious medical conditions. The patient, or their primary caregiver, must also provide proof that they reside in the county. Proof of residency can be anything from a valid DMV photo ID to a utility bill or rental agreement. A minor must provide proof of emancipation or have their parents submit their documentation as well.
Once the MMIC approval is granted, the county will enter this information into a database of the state and issue the card. This system is designed to prevent privacy breaches by requiring the patient or primary caregiver to present their unique MMIC ID number to each cannabis vendor they visit. The MMIC can also be used to verify the identity of a patient or primary caregiver.
Illinois Medical Marijuana Program
The Illinois Medical Marijuana Program is a program that offers medical marijuana for patients with severe, chronic and debilitating diseases who meet the state criteria. The IDPH works with local health departments in order to help patients who qualify complete the application for the registry. The IDPH provides free assistance, but applicants must pay all registration fees and other requirements. The application process is free, but applicants are responsible for all registration fees and other requirements. The Illinois Department of Public Health website has more information about application help.
To qualify for the medical marijuana program, patients must undergo a thorough health evaluation by a certified physician. The physician will assess the patient to determine if cannabis can alleviate symptoms. The doctor will then provide a written certification to the applicant. The patient must then submit the certification and proof of identity to the Illinois Department of Public Health.
After Illinois has approved your application, your medical marijuana identification (MMIC) card will be sent to you via mail. The MMIC will enable you to purchase marijuana in dispensaries. The MMIC is also proof that you have registered as a medical marijuana patient.
MMIC holders are required to have a state-issued driver’s licence, state ID card or government passport as proof of identification. Those who wish to waive the photo requirement must sign a Photo Affidavit (available in the Medical Marijuana Patient Application). The MMIC also requires that caregivers and patients have a state-approved ID card.
The process of obtaining an MMIC is long and complex. NuggMD makes the process as simple as possible. We offer telemedicine consultations, which allows you to consult a licensed physician from the comfort of home. We also only charge you for the evaluation if you are approved for a medical marijuana card.
You may be eligible for a discounted MMIC card fee of $25 per year for veterans or $50 for those enrolled in federal disabilities programs. As proof of identification, you must have a valid driver’s license from your state or a state ID card. You cannot be an active duty police officer or firefighter.
New York Medical Marijuana Program
The Empire State offers legal medical marijuana to patients with qualifying conditions. The state’s medical marijuana program was launched in 2014, and is overseen through the Office of Cannabis Management. You must first visit a doctor to discuss your symptoms and determine if cannabis will help you. You can do this by contacting a telehealth service like Leafwell or using an online portal to connect with doctors who are licensed to approve medical marijuana patients in New York.
You will need to show your certifying doctor proof of your residency in the State. A $50 application fee is also required to be paid to OCM, unless you are eligible for a waiver. Once you register, you’ll get a certificate which includes your RegistryID that you can use to buy cannabis.
In New York, patients can have up to 60 days’ supply of cannabis. The amount of cannabis a patient can have is determined by their certifying practitioner. Patients must also have a designated caregiver to buy and grow cannabis on their behalf. Caregivers are required to present their Registry ID and a driver’s licence or non-driver’s ID as well as a copy of the certification from the patient in order to purchase medical marijuana from a dispensary.
In order for minors to get a marijuana card in New York they must be accompanied with a registered caregiver that is 21 years old or older. A registered caregiver also needs to have a valid driver’s license or non-driver’s identification card, as well as proof of residency in the state.
Caregivers may cultivate up six mature plants. They can also have up three patients under their care. Patients and caregivers will need to show their Registry ID and the patient’s certification as well as a photo ID in order to enter a dispensary and purchase products. The Registry ID is printed on a barcoded card that the OCM provides to approved patients and caregivers. Patients and caregivers must keep this card with them at all times when purchasing or handling cannabis.
