Every Monday, Bloggerbabes.com will be presenting a Blogger Babe Of The Week, a featured blogger that we will interview to get to know what motivates her to blog.
Our featured Blogger of the Week is Alaia Williams from Alaia Williams.com.
Blogger Babes: How did you get into blogging?
Alaia: I started blogging in high school, about 13 years ago – back in the early days of LiveJournal! I wrote about everyday life – the normal stuff high school kids write about 🙂 Once I was about a year or two into my business, I started to blog about how people could organize their lives.
Blogger Babes: In a nutshell, how would you describe your blog?
Alaia: My current blog, AlaiaWilliams.com is all about creating a better business and life. I recap the events I do, review useful products and services for business owners, and give tips on how to create an organized business by being efficient, effective and productive.
Blogger Babes: What is the best thing about being a blogger?
Alaia: I’ve always viewed blogging as a way to express my ideas and thoughts – even when no one was around to hear them. I made a lot of friends in the LiveJournal community in those early days. Now that I blog about business, I still love blogging for the same reason – I get to express my ideas and thoughts and share my knowledge. People around the world can find them and hopefully get value from them and learn something that makes their life a little better.
Blogger Babes: Can you tell us a bit about The Entrepreneur Connection?
Alaia: The Entrepreneur Connection is a networking group I started in Los Angeles back in late 2006. Since that time, the group has grown to about 800 members and we’ve had over 100 events. The group brings business owners together to build new connections, share ideas, and grow their businesses. It’s a great group of people that have gathered – I’ve made amazing friends, people have done tons of business through it, and because of it, I ended up creating a conference for women in business that now has national reach! Would not have happened if it wasn’t for The Entrepreneur Connection.
Blogger Babes: What advice would you give to women who aspire to blog?
Alaia: Three things
1. Blog about what you love – not just what you think people want to read. It’s important to write things that help you attract an audience (I assume an audience is what you want if you’re putting your writing out in public). But if you’re writing solely for others and not pursuing your interests, it will be hard to maintain your enthusiasm for it.
2. You don’t have to follow anyone’s rules about blogging frequency. Some people blog every day while others blog once a week. Both blogs can be successful – focus on quality and people will keep coming back.
3. Meet other bloggers…face-to-face. Between email, blogs and social media, it is so easy to sit behind a computer all day and not connect with people “in the real world.” Face time is so important. Find blogger groups or meetups where bloggers in your area occasionally meet up in person. Connect with other people with interests similar to yours and have a good time together. Those in person connections are so valuable and enriching.
