That’s right—bloggers need to be writing, sending, emailing, and pitching press releases to actively engage in public relations (PR), publicity, marketing, and branding. That’s actually how Heidi and I first met—when she hired myself and a past partner to write her explosive announcement for TheAmbitionista (formerly TheSuccessfulStyle).
Truth be told, my past partner and I were mavens in the online social media press release-era, having worked closely with PRWeb‘s founder and initial creators along with other top press release distribution centers. A couple years ago, I used online press releases for link building and niche marketing individual product launches, but I’m not actively using any of those services now.
What do I do instead? I’m back to pitching via the phone and email. I network with all my old and new PR pals, including journalists, editors, publishers, reporters, columnists, etc., both in traditional and new media—which includes bloggers and other social media influencers.
So what are the best times to send press releases to the media?
- 8 am – 12 noon Tuesday mornings.
- Wednesdays and Thursdays.
- Don’t send on Fridays, Saturdays, or Mondays.
- Last resort? Send on Sundays.
Being a bi-coastal organization (I’m in the Tri-state area of CT/NY/NJ, and Heidi’s in Santa Monica), Blogger Babes’s primary focus is on the hour of 11:00 am ET/8:00 am PT on Tuesdays. And although the resources below will speak against it, throughout my twenty years working in PR and publicity, Sundays have actually proven quite beneficial to myself and my clients.
