In our last week’s post on Chrome extensions that ease bloggers’ social efforts we mentioned using Pinterest secret boards to keep content for later reading. This is just one of the many ways these boards can save you time and money.
In February this year Pinterest made the number of secret boards unlimited, giving pinners opportunity to use them in countless interesting ways – from weddings planning, surprise parties, and holiday or birthday gifts, to inspiration, brainstorming, and personal stuff. Following are few creative ways us bloggers can use Pinterest secret boards to make our job faster and easier:
Curating great content for future posts and social media sharing
Today content and social media (and SEO) are interconnected and influence each other. Quality is a MUST, and the standards are getting higher. You can pin great content you find online on a secret board to later share on your blog’s social profiles. These boards are great storage for blog post ideas also, links, research and case studies, news stories, images, and video notes for all sorts of future projects.
For Pinterest boards that are still work-in-progress
It doesn’t look good when people check your page and find empty boards or just few with a link or two. As they won’t be impressed they won’t follow you.
While building your profile to at least have five to six pins on a board, keep them private. Once the boards are complete and fully optimized you can switch them to public and start attracting attention and following.
To closely follow customers, potential clients, industry influencers, and competition
Pinterest secret boards can also help you find out what your target audience values and wants, or what your competition is doing right or wrong to serve their needs. You can repin their most repined pins to get greater insight of the content they all love, use their ideas, and learn from their mistakes, but still keep your own unique ways of blogging and doing business.
To collaborate with other bloggers and share content with clients
If you work together with other writers on your blog, you can create a secret board where you’ll all share content, contribute with ideas, collaborate and brainstorm, but on Pinterest. Bloggers who organize events can also plan them completely on a secret Pinterest board, and designers or travel organizers can ask their clients to share images and videos of their preferences for guidance.
Special perks for VIP members
A great way to boost your repins and motivate people to regularly visit your Pinterest page is to create a special secret board where selected members, blog readers and customers, will get information on exclusive offers, discounts, sneak peeks, once in a month. Such treatment will make them feel special, and that’s very important if you want to stay top of mind with your readers.
You can’t turn an existing public board into secret, but you can create a new one, or as many as you like. And a private board can be switched to public only once before the selection is permanent.
