If you’re just starting blogging, or your blog is relatively new, running for a few days or a few weeks with little to no traffic, there are two options for you to monetize: affiliate links and offering services.
Adding affiliate links is a pretty good way to start earning money on your blog. If done properly, it will bring value to you, your blog readers, and the company producing the product.
Based on your niche and interests you can choose to promote digital products – ebooks, software, membership websites, – or offer physical products from Amazon, though the percentage of sales is very small and it will only work for higher-priced products.
Choose to promote only products and services that you’ve tried and used. If you own a product you like that’s related to your blog’s niche, you can look on their website whether there’s an Affiliate Program offered, or contact the creator for information. But never offer products that you have not used, as you may face significant damages if someone buys based on your recommendation and it turns out you haven’t been telling the truth. Always be honest, and cover the good and the bad sides of the product.
It’s harder to create a product when your blog is still new, but you can offer your services, right? Think about the skills you have that relate to your blog niche. They may not mean that much to you, but for someone else they are priceless.
If you run a blog on knitting for example, you can offer to teach your readers how to knit their favorite hat and scarf, or sell a beginners course in knitting. Bloggers who blog about writing can offer their services as bloggers, editors, proofreaders, writing instructors, and so on.
At first, you may need to offer your service for free to friends and other people of your choice, and ask them to give you a feedback you can publish in your testimonials. This will help boost your authority in front of new visitors.
Why Not Advertising?
AdSense can provide solid income but for bloggers with lots of readers and visits; for beginners hardly. First focus on driving traffic and improving your blog before you start looking for advertisers. When you’re ready, read our tips for AdSense newbies.
